The Carolina Moon Jazz Group is an exciting and eclectic jazz band from New Zealand with an international membership.

Featuring the exhilarating musical partnership of UK/Australian vocalist Carolina Moon and outstanding tenor sax player, Roger Manins, they perform a range of jazz styles from elegant classics to smiling, swinging jazz and cutting edge contemporary repertoire.

Carolina combines a warm, articulate jazz delivery with an extraordinary range of styles and languages and spices her programs with French chanson, Spanish and Latin American songs and grooves.

CMJG offer a feast of musical genres, a smooth, fresh sound with a contemporary edge and arrangements that stand out from the crowd. Moon’s interactive style, unison work and interplay with Manins are icing on the cake!

BIOGRAPHY

CAROLINA MOON ~ vocals ___________________________ < full bio

Born in the north of England, Carolina Moon aka Caroline Lynn, has spent the last fifteen years carving out a very singular niche as a jazz singer, multi-lingual artist, composer and bandleader.

Moon began developing her craft on the London/UK jazz and festival scene of the early 90’s. She studied at London's Guildhall School of Music before moving to Sydney, and she now resides permanently in Auckland. Over the course of her career, Moon has developed an extraordinary breadth of repertoire complemented by an awesome facility in a range of languages.

She has performed extensively throughout London and the UK, Australia, India, China and New Zealand.

ROGER MANINS ~ tenor saxophone, flute

Roger Manins, born in 1970 in Waiuku, New Zealand has been branded one of the most exciting and explosive saxophonists in Australasia. His warm passionate sound and his remarkable instrumental ability is in demand throughout Australia and New Zealand, and has been recorded on over 25 jazz albums with many of the leading lights of NZ and Australian jazz. Having spent much of his career based in NY and Sydney, Roger now lives in Auckland and continues to tour regularly in Australia, New Zealand and New Caledonia._______< full bio

KEVIN FIELD ~ piano / fender rhodes

Pianist Kevin Field has featured on many notable jazz recordings by New Zealand artists including Nathan Haines, Caitlin Smith, Carolina Moon, and Peter Urlich, and was musical director for Whirimako Black's 'Sings' album which won the best jazz album award at the 2008 Vodafone Music Awards. Kevin also performs with both the NZSO and the APO in their jazz concerts.

Kevin’s own release 'Dangerous Curves' showcases his innovative writing style, and his recent projects include a forthcoming release on Rattle Records of of original compositions in collaboration with drummer Ron Samsom and bassist Olivier Holland.
